After a slow first quarter Drew Brees is now firing on all cylinders for the New Orleans Saints. Brees has thrown for 252 yards and two touchdowns for the saints as New Orleans has opened up a 24-7 halftime lead over the Detroit Lions. Brees threw for almost 200 yards in the second quarter alone, including a 67-yard touchdown pass to Robert Meachem and a 20 score to Lance Moore. His pass to Meachem assured that he has now thrown a touchdown pass in 39 consecutive games.
The Lions, meanwhile, have been frustrated by a suddenly stout Saints defense. New Orleans blocked a Jason Hanson field goal attempt as time expired in the half, and they have been regularly double-teaming Calvin Johnson:
Detroit got on the board with 2:28 to go before halftime when Kevin Smith capped a 10 play, 80 yard drive with a two yard touchdown plunge. The Saints answered, however, with an 8 play, 51 yard drive that was capped by Moore's touchdown catch.
