Nate Burleson Fined $7,500 For Facemask Penalty

As the penalties stack up for the Detroit Lions, so do the fines. But this time, it's not defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh getting handed a fine - he was suspended for last week's game against the New Orleans Saints. According to The Detroit News, wide receiver Nate Burleson said that he was fined $7,500 for a facemask penalty on Sunday. It's an odd penalty, considering he's an offensive player and, while they can still be called for facemask (when they close their hands and grab while performing a stiff-arm), it's not something they're generally penalized for

Perhaps it's just the league continuing to crack down on the Lions, maybe even sending a message to Jim Schwartz that the team is committing too many penalties involving flagrant fouls or unnecessary roughness. Brandon Pettigrew is likely to receive a fine as well, despite a public apology for shoving a referee. Officially, fine information isn't released until Friday.
