NFL Roster Cuts: Robert Callaway Released By Lions

News about the latest NFL roster cuts is coming out left and right. So far there hasn't been a ton of news related to the Detroit Lions, but news of their cuts is starting to leak out on Saturday morning.

The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett reports that defensive tackle Robert Callaway has been released by the Lions. He was informed of his release on Friday night, as were some others players who were let go.

The reason for Callaway's release is strictly depth related. The Lions just have too much of it at defensive tackle. Callaway played very well during the preseason, but with the Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Nick Fairley, Sammie Hill and Andre Fluellen ahead of him on the depth chart, there just wasn't room on the roster for Callaway.

If Callaway doesn't get scooped up by another team on waivers, expect him to return to the Lions as a member of the practice squad.
