News of the Detroit Lions roster cuts is coming out fast and furious. Already we learned that defensive tackle Robert Callaway was released, and now three more players are joining him.
According to Dave Birkett, the Lions have released wide receiver Nate Hughes, defensive end Keyunta Dawson and defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock.
Hughes had a solid training camp and preseason, but Maurice Stovall and Rashied Davis are presumed to have locked up the final spots at wide receiver. Hughes could sign with the practice squad and return to the Lions if he clears waivers.
As for the two defensive linemen let go, this was once again a depth issue. Four defensive ends are expected to make the roster, and those spots are occupied by Kyle Vanden Bosch, Cliff Avril, Lawrence Jackson and Willie Young. Five defensive tackles are expected to make the team, and those spots are occupied by Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Sammie Hill, Nick Fairley and Andre Fluellen. There simply just wasn't room for Dawson and Pitcock.
