Former Boise State running back Ian Johnson is among the latest wave of players to be released by the Detroit Lions. Offensive tackle Kirk Chambers, linebacker Cobrani Mixon and cornerback Paul Pratt were also let go in the latest wave of cuts.
Johnson showed some flashes of potential during the preseason, but Jerome Harrison and Aaron Brown both edged him out for a spot on the roster at running back.
Chambers, Mixon and Pratt were never really serious contenders for spots on the roster. Chambers was behind an established group of veterans at offensive tackle, and Mixon and Pratt were dealing with similar situations at their respective positions.
The good news for Pratt is he will join the Lions practice squad if he clears waivers. It's unlikely he will be picked up by another team, so in all likelihood he will be staying in Detroit and waiting to be signed to the 53-man roster if an injury happens.
