The Detroit Lions have decided to go with a new punter this upcoming season. Ryan Donahue, who was signed as an undrafted free agent, will be the starter when the season opens, according to Dave Birkett. This means Nick Harris will be released or traded.
In other Lions roster news, the team has released cornerback Nathan Vasher and safety Ricardo Silva.
Vasher was edged out by Brandon McDonald earlier in the preseason in my mind. McDonald simply outplayed him. Vasher could have made the roster to fill in for an injured Alphonso Smith at cornerback, but Smith is reportedly going to be good to go to start the season.
Silva played extremely well during the preseason and looked to be another undrafted free agent that could make the team. There wasn't room on the roster for him, though, so he had to be released. Chances are he will be signed to the practice squad.
