Several Detroit Lions Players Change Jersey Numbers

Several Lions players will be sporting new jersey numbers Sept. 11 when the Lions open their season in Tampa Bay.

Notably, tight end Brandon Pettigrew will trade his No. 84 for No. 87, the number he wore while he was at Oklahoma State.

↵

Linebacker Justin Durant will now wear No. 52 and rookie Doug Hogue will don No. 57. Durant wore No. 56 when he was initially drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007.

↵

Newcomers Keiland Williams and Jacques McClendon also got their new jerseys, and will wear Nos. 34 and 63, respectively. Williams, a running back, and McClendon, an offensive lineman, were both claimed off waivers by the Lions.

↵

If No. 34 seems familiar, that would likely be because it was recently worn by running back Kevin Smith, who is currently a free agent after the Lions decided not to extend him an offer after last season.

Williams wore No. 35 last season in Washington and McClendon wore No. 80 for Indianapolis, where he was originally a tight end.
