2012 NFL Mock Draft: Detroit Lions Will Select Best Player Available, But Cornerbacks Are Early Guesses

After the Detroit Lions fell in the Wild Card Round to the New Orleans Saints, it was determined that they would have the No. 23 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft. The early consensus is that the Lions will go defense, although Martin Mayhew has said the team will stick with picking the best player available.

SB Nation's latest mock draft has Detroit drafting cornerback Alfonzo Dennard out of Nebraska with their first rounder. Sports Illustrated also foresees Dennard being the pick for the Lions.

Dane Brugler at CBS Sports thinks the Lions could go with cornerback Janoris Jenkins out North Alabama if Jenkins' off-field problems don't pose too much of a concern. Rob Rang at CBS Sports believes Jenkins could be the pick for the Lions, as well. Both say Jenkins has top 20 talent and think his run ins with the law will have him slipping to the Lions and making him the steal of the draft.
