The Detroit Lions continue holding onto their franchise tag with a decision due by Monday on how they plan to use the tag. According to Jason La Canfora, the Lions are trying to avoid using the franchise tag on defensive end Cliff Avril, instead working to sign Avril to a long-term deal.
The Pride of Detroit has the situation covered and hopes the Lions can save the franchise tag.
The best-case scenario would be for the Lions and Avril to agree on a long-term deal before the franchise tag has to be entered into the equation. That would give them the opportunity to use it on someone like Stephen Tulloch, and it would mean that they have locked up Avril to a long-term contract.
