In the final mock draft from both ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr., both experts say the Lions are targeting a top-tier cornerback. McShay, however, thinks Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick will drop to Detroit and Kiper Jr. does not.
Kiper Jr. believes the team will have to settle with a backup plan and instead turn to Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin:
The Lions are old at crucial spots on the offensive line, and Martin is an athletic tackle with plenty of upside. If they don't see value at CB here, the pick makes sense.
Usually a perennial top-10 pick, the Detroit Lions will not select until No. 23 in this year's draft after last season's playoff appearance.
