2012 NFL Draft Results: Tahir Whitehead Goes To The Lions In The Fifth Round

With the 138th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have selected Temple outside linebacker Tahir Whitehead. Whitehead was taken a bit earlier than many initially projected -- he was often pegged as a late fifth or early sixth rounder.

At 6-foot-1, 233 pounds, Whitehead was regarded by scouts as a hard-working player, but with limited upside. He doesn't possess great speed or strength, but could nonetheless make an impact on the next level on special teams, and with time, could also become serviceable on defense. At Temple, he, at times, struggled in pass defense, though often faring well against the run.

The pick -- the third in the fifth round -- came through a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.
