Actor Jeff Daniels Stops By Detroit Lions Training Camp

A regular at Detroit Lions training camps over the years, actor Jeff Daniels once again made an appearance at the team's facilities on Wednesday afternoon to visit with head coach Jim Schwartz and the team.

Daniels, a native of Chelsea, Michigan and the star of HBO's new hit series Newsroom, also met with another former Chelsea resident, tight end Tony Scheffler, to chat about the upcoming season. And as an ardent supporter of the Lions and their continuous push to get over the hump as a franchise, Daniels was impressed with what he saw.

"They can also smell playoffs now," Daniels told The Detroit Free Press. "They can also smell 'now it’s not just potential.' Now it’s — they’re looking beyond the regular season. And that’s a whole different training camp than, ‘Gee, I hope we win three games.’"

The renowned actor also posed for a picture with his good friend Schwartz that the veteran coach quickly uploaded to Twitter, but will clearly leave town with a new sense of respect for how the Lions run their franchise. "It’s exciting," said Daniels. "From the top on down."
