Lions Vs. 49ers Score Update: Detroit Trails San Francisco After Three Quarters, 17-9

Two field goals were the extent of the third quarter scoring as Sunday Night Football heads to the fourth quarter with the San Francisco 49ers leading the Detroit Lions, 17-9.

Alex Smith and the 49ers came out of the half hot, moving to the Detroit 21-yard line in just over four minutes thanks to several Smith completions and one Kyle Vanden Bosch face masking penalty. However, the drive stalled after an Ndamukong Suh sack, and the 49ers had to settle for a field goal to ectend their lead, 17-6. Below, the penalty:

The Lions answered with a long drive of their own. Behind three Matthew Stafford completions to Calvin Johnson, Detroit sustained an almost seven minute long drive, however, they too had to settle for only a field goal. Jason Hanson converted the kick to cut the deficit to 17-9.

The 49ers were mounting another drive and had just moved inside Detroit territory as the quarter ended.
