On Wednesday, Detroit Lions cornerback Chris Houston returned to the practice field for the first time this season. Houston missed Detroit's first tow games with a sprained ankle, and was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Going full speed in a Wednesday practice is usually a good indication that a player will suit up on Sunday, and it certainly seems the case for Houston.
Houston himself confirmed that he'd be in action (though players have gotten overzealous before), according to CBS Sports:
"I will definitely be out there this week," said Houston, in a departure from the usual vague answers given by Detroit's injured players when discussing their playing status. ... "It was close [in Week 2], but I still had little hitches," he said. "I couldn't stop all the way, but now I can stop, plant and run full speed."
It's good to see that Houston believes he's 100 percent. While you have to take what they say in regards to being active with a grain of salt sometimes, a player saying he's at 100 percent means he really is ready and wants to come back. Detroit will be taking on the Tennessee Titans in Week 3, and Houston's help in the secondary would be a big boost for a 1-1 Lions team.
The Lions have had problems with their secondary dating back to last season. They lost some key players this offseason in Aaron Barry and Eric Wright, and just placed veteran Drayton Florence on injured reserve with a designation to return after eight weeks. On top of that, Bill Bentley was limited in Wednesday as he's receovering for a Week 1 concussion.
