The Detroit Lions have named their team captains for the 2012 season. The Lions have six captains this year, two more than in past years. The captains were selected based on a team vote and include three captains from last year's squad as well as three first-time team captains.

The breakdown of captains of the 2012 Detroit Lions is as follows:

Offense: Quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Calvin Johnson

Defense: Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, linebacker Stephen Tulloch

Special Teams: Kicker Jason Hanson, safety John Wendling

Stafford, Vanden Bosch, and Hanson were team captains during the 2010 and 2011 seasons as well. Wendling is a safety, but is also an accomplished special teams gunner.
