Matthew Stafford has thrown three first-half interceptions against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, and the Rams have taken full advantage of the Detroit Lions' miscues to lead 13-10 at halftime.
The Lions drove 77 yards to the Rams' 3-yard line on their first drive of 2012, but Stafford's pass was intercepted by Janoris Jenkins and returned to the St. Louis 34. The Rams would take advantage, moving to the Detroit 30 for a 48-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein to take a 3-0 lead with two minutes to play in the first quarter.
Stafford and the Lions responded on the next possession, where they went on an 80-yard drive capped by a Joique Bell 1-yard touchdown run.
But another miscue by Stafford again led to a St. Louis field goal. With just more than seven minutes to play in the first half and deep in Rams territory, the Lions quarterback threw a pick to Jo-Lonn Dunbar on a pass intended for Brandon Pettigrew. Dunbar returned the pick to the Detroit 44, and St. Louis drove all the way to the Lions' 6-yard line before stalling and settling for a 29-yard field goal.
To cap off the rough start to the season, Stafford threw a pick-six to Cortland Finnegan two minutes before the half for a 31-yard touchdown.
Detroit's Jason Hanson would kick a 41-yard field goal to bring the game within three points just before the half.
Detroit has outgained St. Louis 231 yards to just 91 in the first half.
