Tonight's edition of "Homecoming with Rick Reilly" features former Michigan State and Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson and a return to East Lansing. The show was taped last Thursday night at Jenison Field House on the MSU campus.
↵Johnson has been previously mentioned as holding a possible minority stake in Mike Ilitch's ownership group that's trying to purchase the Detroit Pistons. The sale of the Pistons, let alone Johnson's involvement in any prospective ownership, is far from being resolved. But that didn't stop Magic from sharing a few opinions on the current Pistons team (7-18, last place in the Central Division).
↵↵↵↵"Too many individuals," Johnson said. "You have to get back to what made them great, and that's defense and rebounding. ... What we see now is a team that's soft. "People from Detroit and Michigan can accept losing, but not the way they're losing."
↵
And Magic said that before the Pistons blew a 25-point lead on Friday night at home to the Toronto Raptors.
↵Johnson also had some thoughts on his alma mater's basketball team and what's troubling them right now.
↵"Homecoming" runs at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. You can read more from Reilly on the episode, including some highlight clips, at his ESPN.com blog.
