John Kuester Hasn't Been Fired By Pistons Yet

On Sunday, ESPN reported that John Kuester was out as head coach of the Detroit Pistons. The report didn't indicate whether or not Kuester was fired or resigned, but the main point was that the Pistons will have a new coach next season.

Nobody denies that Kuester will likely be fired at some point, but ESPN's report was universally shot down by local and national outlets. The general consensus is that ESPN jumped the gun on reporting Kuester's departure, as indicated by the fact that Kuester himself hasn't even talked with Joe Dumars yet about the team's future plans.

Kuester, reached by phone this afternoon, told the Free Press that he has not met with Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars to discuss his future with the organization or whether he will return for the final season of the three-year deal he agreed to when he was hired in the summer of 2009.

Kuester went on to say that he hasn't "been given any indication either way" about his future with the Pistons. Even so, it's likely that Kuester will be fired once the transfer of ownership to Tom Gores is complete.
