SB Nation's Tom Ziller has posted his latest 2011 NBA mock draft. This edition has the Detroit Pistons opting to select Texas forward Tristan Thompson. Despite UConn point guard Kemba Walker and forward/center Bismack Biyombo of the Democratic Republic of the Congo still being available, Ziller has the Pistons taking Thompson instead.
If the Pistons were to take Thompson, they would be adding a 6-foot-8 forward that spent one season at Texas. In that one season he averaged 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He also averaged 2.4 blocks per game and helped lead the Longhorns to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
While Walker is viewed as a player that has more talent and Biyombo has a lot of potential, Thompson has some upside himself. He would be a nice complement to Greg Monroe in the post, and he would help the Pistons rebuild their defense under a still yet to be named head coach.
