Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk joined elite company tonight, recording his 200th career goal early in the second period.
Datsyuk took a feed from teammate Henrik Zetterberg and beautifully redirected it past Colorado goaltender Peter Budaj on the power play at the 2:50 mark of the seond period, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 lead. It was Datsyuk’s second goal of the year.
He joins a select group of Red Wings to tally 200 goals in their career. Only 14 players are members of the group, which includes current Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom (237), Tomas Holmstrom (214) and Henrik Zetterberg (206). Vyacheslov Kozlov (202) is now within Datsyuk’s sights at no. 14 all-time.
Mike Modano has 558 goals in his career, but 557 of those came while he was with the Dallas Stars franchise.
The Red Wings lead the Avalanche 3-2 at the start of the third period.
