Franzen Diagnosed With Minor Concussion, Might Return Thursday

A MRI exam revealed that Detroit Red Wings center Johan Franzen sustained a minor concussion from a hit to the head received on Thursday. But if Franzen gets through several off-ice workouts and shows no symptoms, he could be ready to play by Thursday against the Calgary Flames.

Team doctors were concerned that Franzen might have suffered another subdural hematoma, an injury that caused him to miss six games during the 2008 playoffs. But test results showed nothing like that had occurred.

From MLive.com:

“It’s a concussion, but that’s not what they were worried about,‘’ Franzen said. "That (potential hematoma) is what they always check now because I have a history of that. They just want to be safe.’’

Drew Miller will continue to replace Franzen in the Red Wings’ lineup.
