KHL Would Need '10 Million A Year' To Lure Chris Chelios

The KHL is in desperate need of players. Recently, the league turned to recently retired NHL iron man Chris Chelios for help.

Sources say Vityaz of the KHL contacted the former 48-year-old Red Wings defenseman about playing for them, but Chelios denied that he was in negotiations with the club. Chelios said he'd be interested though if they gave him the right offer.

"If they offered me 10 million a year," Chelios said. "I’m having a lot of fun watching my kids, and I like my job. So, no."

Chelios spent the majority of his season last year in the AHL and played seven games for the Atlanta Thrashers before retiring. Chelios currently works for the Red Wings in advisory role to top defensive prospects.

It'd be easy to laugh off Chelios playing until he's 50, but people have been making that mistake for years. The Red Wings got him when he was 37-years-old and he played for another 10 seasons. The lesson: never count this guy out.
