Kris Draper was originally planning on getting some time on the ice Wednesday in order to test his injured groin, but that didn't end up happening.
Draper knew he wasn't going to be able to skate freely, so instead of risking further injury, he remained in the weight room.
"I knew it wasn't good enough to test," Draper said.
"Hopefully every day it gets a little better and stronger. I have to be smart about this."
Draper obviously would like to get back soon so he can resume the competition for a spot on the Red Wings' fourth line. At the same time, you don't want to rush back from a groin injury and potentially injure yourself for an even longer period of time, which is why Draper is taking the patient approach.
