Earlier this week forward Tomas Tatar was sent down to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins after completing a 10-day stay in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. With both Patrick Eaves and Valtteri Filppula coming back from injuries, Tatar's services were no longer needed, so he was returned to Grand Rapids.
Only a few days after heading back to Grand Rapids, Tatar is back in Detroit to play for the Red Wings. Tomas Holmstrom suffered a broken hand against the Blue Jackets on Friday and will be out at least four weeks. With depth getting thin because of injuries, Tatar was recalled to the NHL once again by Detroit.
How long this stint in Detroit will last for Tatar depends on how quickly other injured Red Wings can recover. Pavel Datsyuk and Dan Cleary are expected back some time after the All-Star Game, so it looks like Tatar could be with the Red Wings until at least the start of February.
