Fourth String Goalie Injured? You Can't Make This Stuff Up

New, 1 comment

Red Wings goalie Thomas McCollum, recently called up from AHL Grand Rapids to back up third string-turned-starter Joey MacDonald, broke his finger during this morning’s skate and won’t be playing tonight, Fox Sports Detroit reported during the pregame show.

The result will be a less than 100 percent Jimmy Howard backing up MacDonald for tonight’s contest with Pittsburgh. The plan will be to leave MacDonald in even if it’s 10-0 at the end of the second period. The only way MacDonald will leave this game will be if he’s injured—which I wouldn’t count out at this rate.
