Though the Detroit Red Wings kicked off their recent four game road trip with two straight losses, they managed to salvage it by taking the following two before returning to the Joe Louis Arena. Now, on a two game winning streak, the Red Wings will play host to the Calgary Flames in the second of four meetings between the two teams this season.
Detroit lost the first outing between these two teams, and it marked their sixth straight loss at the time. Calgary scored four points to Detroit's one and it wasn't a pretty game. The Red Wings, to their credit, rebounded nicely following that sixth consecutive loss with four straight wins. That game was also the last time Detroit has lost at home - winning four straight at the Joe since then.
The Red Wings are winners in six of their last eight, scoring 4.33 goals-per-game over those six, and are outscoring their opponents 18-4 over the last four games at home. Their last outing was a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks to, and before that it was a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. They were unable to complete their California dominance however, losing to San Jose before that.
Calgary lost its last game, a road game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flames just couldn't get it done, out-played by a Blue Jackets team that is doing its best to begin surging, losing 4-1. Before that, the Flames took a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. They've been playing extremely inconsistent, with only one actual winning streak all season, back on Oct. 26 and Oct. 28, when they beat Colorado and St. Louis. They're got three more games on this four-game road trip, starting with the Wings.
The game is set for 7:00 p.m. eastern on Wednesday, and can be seen, as usual, on Fox Sports Detroit.
