The Detroit Red Wings entered the second period being outshot, but were winning 1-0 despite that fact. The Boston Bruins kept up their pressure, though, and tied it four minutes into the second frame. Jimmy Howard played the puck behind the net and tried to get it back across to one of his guys, but it was stolen by Nathan Horton, who fed Daniel Paille. Paille was able to put it into the net before Howard could get back into position.
It didn't take long for Detroit to re-take the lead though, as Pavel Datsyuk did what only Pavel Datsyuk could do. Taking a pass alone in front of the net, he kicked it forward, then back, and simply slid it right under the leg of Tuukka Rask, giving Detroit the lead back less than a minute later.
That turned the tide of the game around, and Detroit recovered from being outshot 13-6 in the first period by outshooting the Bruins 14-10 in the second, but ultimately trail in that regard 23-20. Detroit has won more faceoffs and trail in the hit stat by just one.
