The red-hot Red Wings etched another win in the standings after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday night.
In their only matchup of the season against Tampa Bay, Detroit pushed their season-high winning streak to six games.
Four different Red Wings got on the scoresheet as Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson, Tomas Holmstrom and Darren Helm sandwiched goals around the Lightning, first giving Detroit a 2-0 lead and then breaking a 2-2 tie to win 4-2. Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos scored in the second period for the Lightning, who have now lost two straight.
Speaking of streaks, the Red Wings have spent the entire season trading winning streaks and losing streaks. They started the season with five straight wins before losing five straight, then proceeded to win four in a row before dropping two straight games -- and now they have a six-game winning streak to call their own.
The Red Wings, now 15-7-1 and newly atop the Central Division with 33 points, travel for a three-game road trip starting when they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
