The Detroit Red Wings have finally got the win they were looking for, snapping a six-game losing streak with a shutout of the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. The win came just in time for the Red Wings to salvage this six-game homestand with the ability to make it a winning one, after dropping the first two games of said homestand. Now they'll host the Colorado Avalanche, a team that boasts a 6-1-1 record on the road this season.
Detroit tallied five goals and appeared to vent an awful lot of frustration in their 5-0 shutout of the Ducks. Nicklas Lidstrom had two goals and an assist in the win. Of note for the Red Wings is that fact that forward Fabian Brunnstrom will remain in the lineup and play again, after contributing in the 5-0 win over the Ducks. Brunnstrom had initially been sent down to Grand Rapids following seemingly uninspired play, but he'll get another chance tonight to build confidence for himself and for coach Mike Babcock to gain confidence in him.
While the Avalanche are in fact 6-1-1 at home, they've only won one game at the Pepsi Center, and are 1-5-0 at home. Their most recent outing, against the Calgary Flames was also at home and ended up being a 2-1 loss for the Avalanche. They're currently on a three-game skid after losing a thrilling game in overtime to the Dallas Stars by a margin of 7-6. Before that, they were felled by the Coyotes 4-1 at home.
This is the second meeting between the two teams this season - they'll meet four times overall. The first outing was 3-0 shutout win for Detroit on Oct. 8. This game is set for 7:30 p.m. eastern and can be seen on Fox Sports Detroit, as usual.
