Johan Franzen Hat-Trick Leads Red Wings Over Avalanche

Johan Franzen netted a hat-trick to lead the Detroit Red Wings to an easy 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche, pushing the team to its second straight win.

Franzen netted two goals in the second period and tallied another in third period, an empty-netter to cap off a grand night. Franzen stayed in fine form after racking up a goal and two assists in the team's previous game, a 5-0 over the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 5.

As Franzen has gone, so have gone the Red Wings, at least so far this season. Detroit had lost five straight games prior to this two-game win streak, and Franzen neither scored nor assisted in any of those five losses in which Detroit managed just five goals total. Franzen had also slotted four goals and three assists when the Red Wings started the season with five straight wins.

And so streaky Detroit will try to keep the good times rolling when they host a pair of division-leading teams in the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 respectively.
