Red Wings Vs. Avalanche: Colorado Breaks Detroit's Win Streak With 4-2 Win

After a seven game winning streak, the Detroit Red Wings were finally beaten as the Colorado Avalanche earned a 4-2 win on the strength of two goals in the final 11 minutes. T.J. Galiardi scored a shorthanded goal at the 9:22 mark of the third period and Ryan O'Reilly added an empty net goal in the last minute to clinch the victory.

Detroit's offense started the scoring when Johan Franzen scored less than five minutes into the game. Detroit didn't manage its second goal until Daniel Cleary scored in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. O'Reilly and Paul Stastny both scored in the second period for the Avalanche to put them in front after two periods.

Ty Conklin managed 31 saves for the Red Wings, but he struggled in the second period when he faced a virtual shooting gallery of 19 shots. Detroit's run of seven straight wins has pulled them within two points of Chicago for the lead in the Central Division.
