Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves appears to have some kind of groin injury and avoided a knee injury after colliding with San Jose’s Torrey Mitchell on Tuesday.
Eaves had an MRI on Wednesday but the results aren’t back yet. General manager Ken Holland said he could miss up to a week of action.
“I’ll see the doctor tonight and get the full report (from Wednesday’s MRI),‘’ Eaves said Thursday. “Not a knee, I lucked out there. Hopefully (out) just a little while.’’
Eaves said he got himself into a “splits” situation when he landed after the collision. Eaves won’t accompany the team on the five-game road trip that starts Saturday in Buffalo, but the Red Wings expect to have Valtteri Filppula and Mike Modano back by then.
In the meantime, Detroit called up Jan Mursak from Grand Rapids and he’s in the lineup tonight against Dallas.
