Henrik Zetterberg skated for about an hour on Sunday as he makes a recovery from a knee injury sustained on April 6 against Carolina.
Zetterberg has already been ruled out for Game 3 on Monday night and it’s highly likely we won’t see him at all in the series with Phoenix. However, progress is being made on what we now know is a second-degree medial collateral ligament sprain.
There is some concern about re-aggravating the injury, though. Zetterberg felt a “twinge” on Saturday but was able to return to the ice and resume skating. Sprains can be a tricky thing to figure out; last year Niklas Kronwall suffered the same type of injury and missed a significant portion of the regular season.
With Detroit up 2-0 in the series, there’ no rush to get him back in the lineup, at least not yet. Johan Franzen suffered a scary incident in Game 2 but was able to return and is expected to play on Monday, so Detroit shouldn’t be anymore short-handed than it already is.
