Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is one of three finalists for this year's Norris Trophy. Last week, Lidstrom was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy, and now he is up for what would be his seventh career Norris Trophy if he is named the winner.
↵As you probably already know, the Norris Trophy annually goes to the NHL's top defensive player. The NHL's exact description of the award is that it is given to the "(top defensive) player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position."
↵This is the 11th time Lidstrom has been named a finalist for the Norris Trophy in the last 13 years. He won his first Norris Trophy back in 2001 and followed that up with two more in the next two seasons. After Scott Niedermayer won the award in 2003-04 and there was a lockout the following year, Lidstrom won the next three Norris Trophy awards. Chara and Duncan Keith have won the award the last two years.
↵Lidstrom will find out if he is taking home the Lady Byng Trophy and/or the Norris Trophy at the NHL awards show in Las Vegas on June 22.
