Sharks goalie Antti Niemi has stopped all 32 shots he’s faced in Game 6 against the Red Wings, helping keep the Sharks in a scoreless tie after two periods.
The Red Wings have been all over the ice, peppering the former Blackhawk with several great scoring chances. The best came roughly six minutes into the second period, when Dan Cleary deked Niemi on a breakaway opportunity but hit the post with a wide open net. Drew Miller also had a glorious scoring opportunity, but his shot went wide after being defended by Dan Boyle.
Henrik Zetterberg and Darren Helm nearly got Detroit on the board while shorthanded in the second during a 2-on-1 break, but Helm had his stick lifted before he could one-time Zetterberg’s pass.
Despite not seeing much work, Jimmy Howard has held up his end of the bargain at the other end, stopping all 13 shots he’s faced.
The stats are nearly reversed from last game. San Jose out shot the Red Wings 30-16 after two periods in Game 5, but Detroit was able to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win.
