NHL Awards Show 2011: Nicklas Lidstrom Takes Home 7th Career Norris Trophy

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom, who just announced earlier this week he is returning for a 20th NHL season, won his seventh career James Norris Trophy on Wednesday night. Lidstrom edged out Boston's Zdeno Chara and Nashville's Shea Weber to win the award.

Lidstrom won his first Norris Trophy following the 2000-01 season. He went on to win his second and third Norris Trophies in the two seasons that followed. Scott Niedermayer took home the award for the 2003-04 season, and the next year no award was handed out due to the lockout. Once hockey resumed, Lidstrom won three straight Norris Trophies, and now he has another one to add to the trophy case.

Lidstrom is also up for the Lady Byng Trophy. It has already been announced that Chara was the winner of the Mark Messier Award, which Lidstrom was nominated for as well, but the Lady Byng Trophy winner won't be announced until later in the NHL Awards show.

Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk is a nominee for the Selke Trophy.
