The Detroit Red Wings will find out in the next 48 hours or so if they will be adding Jaromir Jagr to the team for next season. Jagr has spent the last couple weeks thinking about whether or not he should return to the NHL, and that decision has already been made. He is coming back to the NHL, but the team he will play for has not yet been decided.
The Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be the only two teams in contention to land Jagr, and the two clubs will find out which of them won the Jagr sweepstakes before free agency opens on Friday.
"We expect a decision in the next couple of days," said Petr Svoboda, Jagr's agent. "Teams need to know their plan (going into free agency)."
Speculation suggests Jagr will sign with the Penguins, but that is only speculation. When a final decision is finally made, Jagr very well may decide he wants to play with Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Nicklas Lidstrom and the Red Wings rather than return to the Penguins. We will find out for sure soon, and on Friday Jagr will be able to officially sign his deal.
