Red Wings Injury Updates: Jan Mursak, Dan Cleary, Brad Stuart, Others

The NHL regular season is still a week away and already the Red Wings are a bit banged up. Most of the injuries are thankfully minor, but Jan Mursak is out for three months after breaking his ankle.

The Detroit Red Wings begin the 2011 season next week, and they are already dealing with a few injuries. Most of the injuries aren't serious, but one of them will require a three-month recovery. Here's the full rundown:

F Jan Mursak broke his left ankle last Sunday in a game against the Blackhawks. Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said this week that Mursak will have to have pins put in his ankle, and he is expected to miss the next three months. Mursak was expected to make the team, so this could open up a spot for someone like Fabian Brunnstrom, who has had a good preseason.

F Dan Cleary is out for the rest of the preseason with an undisclosed upper-body injury. The hope is for him to be healthy by the start of the regular season, but it's not clear yet if he will in fact be ready.

D Brad Stuart is also out for the remainder of the preseason. He is dealing with a slight groin pull that happened in Tuesday's Red and White game.

D Mike Commodore is out this weekend due to an undisclosed lower-body injury.

F Pavel Datsyuk isn't going to play on Friday, but he should be able to suit up on Saturday.
