2012 NHL All-Star Draft: Zdeno Chara Makes Pavel Datsyuk No. 1 Overall Pick

The NHL All-Star draft is going on in Ottawa tonight with Zdeno Chara of the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins and Daniel Alfredsson of the Senators captaining and making the selections for the two teams.

After a coin flip determined that Chara would have the first pick, he made Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk his first selection overall. Datsyuk has 14 goals and 39 assists this season, but those numbers only begin to explain the kind of skills Datsyuk brings to the ice; you can't quantify dangle-dangle and an All-Star game is exactly where a star like Datsyuk can shine brightest.

Datsyuk's Red Wings teammate Jimmy Howard will join him on Team Chara, as the winningest goaltender this season was selected in Round 10. Team Chara also has former Red Wing Marian Hossa and the Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin.
