Team Zdeno Chara won the coin flip for first pick in tonight's NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft and made Red Wings' forward Pavel Datsyuk his first selection. He added Datsyuk's teammate Jimmy Howard by default in Round 10.
Per the rules, the captains for the draft had to select all three goalies for their team's roster by the end of the tenth round. Chara picked his Bruins teammate Tim Thomas in the Round 2 and picked Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens in Round 7. Team Daniel Alfredsson only needed to select two goalies before Round 10 because his assistant captain is Henrik Lundqvist and he picked LA's Jonathan Quick in Round 3 and Blues' goalie Brian Elliott in Round 7. Therefore, Howard, the NHL's winningest goalie this season, was the last pick amongst the goalies.
Jimmy Howard is 30-11-1 this year with a 2.03 GAA and .924 save-percentage.
