The Detroit Red Wings are hosting the San Jose Sharks at Joe Louis Arena and are hoping to extend their record home winning streak. After the first period, the Wings are in good shape to do just that, as they hold a 1-0 lead.
Henrik Zetterberg scored his 13th goal of the season at 6:30 in the first period with assists from Jonathan Ericsson and Valtteri Filppula. Zetterberg had a fairly wide-open shot as Sharks goalie Antti Niemi slid to his left, getting the Red Wings on the board early.
The Sharks are currently in first place in the Pacific Division and looking for a win today to keep pace ahead of the surging Phoenix Coyotes. Detroit will do everything they can to keep that from happening.
