The Detroit Red Wings are looking to extend their record-setting home winning streak to 23 games as they host the San Jose Sharks. Through the first two periods of play, the Red Wings are setting themselves up to keep the streak alive, as they lead 2-1 heading into the final period of regulation.
The Red Wings extended their lead to 2-0 at 10:40 in the second period, when Andrew Miller netted his 12th goal of the season, with an assist from Justin Abdelkader. The Wings have scored twice on the struggling Antti Niemi despite taking just 16 shots on goal in the first two period, against 25 shots on goal by San Jose.
The Sharks finally got on the board with a power play goal from Logan Couture, his 25th goal of the season. The assist went to Joe Thornton. The goal came on the third power play opportunity of the period for San Jose.
