Jimmy Howard Injury: Red Wings Goalie Out At Least 2 Games With Broken Finger

Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard will miss at least the rest of the current road trip after breaking his finger Thursday against Vancouver.

During the Detroit Red Wings' 4-3 victory in a shootout against the Vancouver Canucks, Jimmy Howard suffered a broken finger. He will miss at least the next two games for Detroit, both of which are part of an ongoing road trip. After the two games Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers and Monday against the Phoenix Coyotes, Howard will be evaluated in Detroit to see if any more time will need to be missed.

31-year-old keeper Joey MacDonald has been called up to the Wings from the Grand Rapids Griffins to serve as the new backup to Ty Conklin. MacDonald had a 5-5-3 record in 15 games for the Red Wings last season.

Howard currently leads the NHL in goalkeeper wins with 32 at present and is coming off his first ever All-Star Weekend appearance.
