Red Wings Vs. Capitals Score Update: Alex Ovechkin Scores Twice In First, Washington Leads 3-0

Losers of four straight and nine of their last 12 games, the Detroit Red Wings are back in their own building taking on the Washington Capitals on Monday night. Unfortunately, it was all Caps in the first 20 minutes. Alex Ovechkin scored twice and Washington has a 3-0 lead on the Wings heading into the first intermission.

The Capitals got on the scoreboard just under eight minutes into the first after Niklas Kronwall went to the box for high-sticking -- Alex Ovechkin scored the power play goal for his 31st of the season. He netted his 32nd of the season six minutes later on the power play again, but not before Mike Knuble scored an even-strength goal.

The Red Wings outshot the Caps in the first period, 12-10, but continue to struggle on defense. Nicklas Lidstrom, please come back soon.
