Red Wings Sign 2011 Draft Picks Xavier Ouellet, Ryan Sproul To 3-Year Deals

The Detroit Red Wings locked up two top 2011 draft picks on Sunday, inking second-round pick Xavier Ouellet and third rounder Ryan Sproul to a pair of three-year contracts.

Ouellet was selected with the 35th pick as Detroit's second rounder last summer, while Sproul went a few picks later at No. 55. Sproul, who has played in the Ontario Hockey League for the past two seasons, has amassed 37 goals and 50 assists in 122 career games for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Ouellet, who is still only 18, sports a +47 rating in 120 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Both players are expected to factor into the Wings' defensive rotation in the coming seasons, and represent two of the more promising youngsters in Detroit's organization.
