NHL Draft Results: Jacob Trouba Selected By Winnipeg Jets With 9th Pick

Incoming Michigan defenseman Jacob Trouba was just selected by the Winnipeg Jets with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. Trouba was projected to be a top-10 pick by most, and that was a dead on prediction with him going with the ninth pick of the first round. Assuming he actually makes it to Michigan, he will be a big contributor for the Wolverines starting this fall.

Trouba, who is from Rochester, Michigan, played with the USA National Team Development Program the previous two seasons. In 2011-12, he was on the Under-18 Team and scored nine goals and had 22 assists (for 31 points) in 50 games. A season earlier, he recorded seven points on the Under-17 Team.

Trouba is one of several players with ties to the University of Michigan expected to be selected in the 2012 NHL Draft. Current Michigan forward Phil Di Giuseppe could be a first-round pick, as could incoming Michigan forward Cristoval "Boo" Nieves. On the second day of the draft, a few other recruits could be selected.
