NHL Draft Results: Phil Di Giuseppe Selected By Carolina Hurricanes In 2nd Round

On the first day of the draft, incoming Michigan defenseman Jacob Trouba was selected by the Winnipeg Jets with the ninth overall pick. There was some thinking that he could have company in the first round with current Michigan forward Phil Di Giuseppe, but Di Giuseppe slipped to the 38th overall pick. The Carolina Hurricanes selected him on the second day of the draft with the eighth pick of the second round.

Di Giuseppe burst onto the scene last season as a freshman at Michigan. He immediately became one of their big offensive contributors, and by season's end he had recorded 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 40 games. He was an honorable mention on the CCHA All-Rookie Team and expects to be a big contributor again this coming season at Michigan.

With Trouba and Di Giuseppe now being picked, it's expected that Cristoval "Boo" Nieves, an incoming freshman, will be the next player with University of Michigan ties to be selected.
