Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – Brian Matusz was sharp through six innings and Nick Markakis homered as Baltimore squeaked past Detroit, 2-1, in the third installment of their season-ending four-game series.
Matusz (10-12) finished his first full season in the big leagues on a positive note after he yielded a lone run on only two hits while walking two and striking out a season-high nine to earn the win for the Orioles, who have taken the first three games of the series.
Armandon Galarraga (4-9) went the distance in defeat, allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out seven for the Tigers, who suffered their sixth straight loss.
Galarraga, who was one out away from a perfect game June 2, finished the season winning only one of his last 17 starts and going winless over his final eight road turns since a June 24 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field.
