Former Tigers Reunite: Trammell To Join Gibson's Staff In Arizona

Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell were teammates on the Detroit Tigers for 12 seasons. They donned the Old English D again from 2003-05, when Trammell was the Tigers' manager and Gibson was a coach on his staff (serving first as bench coach, then hitting coach).

When Trammell was fired by the Tigers after the 2005 season, the two went separate ways. Gibson joined Bob Melvin's staff in Arizona in 2007, while Trammell became Lou Piniella's bench coach with the Cubs that same year.

However, circumstances have reunited the two former Tigers again. Gibson took over as the Diamondbacks' interim manager when A.J. Hinch was fired earlier this year, and was given the job after the season. Trammell, meanwhile, was passed over for the Cubs' top job in favor of Mike Quade.

With Trammell on the market, Gibson is expected to name his old teammate to his coaching staff. Trammell will become the Diamondbacks' bench coach, joining Don Baylor as hitting coach and Charles Nagy as pitching coach. (Hey, where's Lance Parrish these days? He was Trammell's bullpen coach in Detroit.)

Will getting the band back together work out better in Arizona than it did in Detroit?
