Whelp, the game resumed in the fifth inning after a 41-minute rain delay, but rain has halted play once again.
Once play resumed after the first delay, the Tigers were able to plate two runs thanks to an RBI double by Austin Jackson (to right field!) and a bases loaded wild pitch. When the showers resumed and play was called, the Tigers had Alex Avila coming to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs.
FOX again went to the local weather guy as the tarp was being pulled onto the field and he suggested the delay would not be long, as most of the rain appears to be to the west of the stadium.
Here’s what it looks like on Weather.com:
Joe Torre said that due to the intermittent blocks of bad weather that may pop up, the teams will sit tight for now and wait for the green that supposedly exists behind. However, it’s not out of the question that we find ourselves in a situation like the Yankees series where play will need to be picked up tomorrow, pushing the rest of the series back. Cool beans.
UPDATE: Per Jason Beck, this game will resume around 11:45 p.m. EST. Also according to Beck, Rick Porcello is playing long toss in the outfield, which would suggest that he will be pitching for the Tigers in the bottom of the 5th inning when play is resumed.
